Thursday afternoon, Casey’s and Lynn’s schools threw a despedida & bienvenida. There were many dance and music performances by students, the highlight being 3 clowns who invited Casey and Christina up to dance with them.
Friday morning we went to Xela (1 hour by bus). Lynn and I worked out at the gym and then ate delicious donuts from the Mennonite-owned Bake Shop. Yes, gym and donuts. We did a little shopping and then I had to head back to Toto for a couple meetings at the schools. I visited the school in Nimapa and presented myself to all the students and staff, and then the director and a teacher from the school in Chuculjuyup accompanied me to the school in Xantun, another rural school with only 20 students. There are 2 different bus terminals in Toto, two of my schools out of each one, so I’m gradually figuring my way around.
My first impression is that this department and Ministry of Ed is very organized and professional and that Lynn Nguyen is leaving me with very big shoes to fill. I’m excited, but again, a little overwhelmed!
Oh, I forgot to mention, my first night in Toto there was an earthquake tremor to welcome me to town and that awoke me in the middle of the night. I wish I had some photos of my new home to post, but there will be time enough for that. 2 years to be exact.

great photos — and DONUTS. Awright!!!!
